Our man for bookie reviews and Aussie rules football
In the five years that have passed since the launch of PlayUp Australia it has certainly not sat on its laurels. This Aussie-owned sportsbook has already captured the hearts of punters in its home country and is currently in the process of expanding its realm to the US.
If you are wondering ‘is PlayUp reliable?’ we are happy to confirm that it is fully licensed and regulated by the Northern Territory Government and has performed impeccably under that jurisdiction. Whether your passion is racing or sport, PlayUp has plenty of global variations ready and waiting for you.
We could find very little to criticise in this section of our PlayUp reviews and the operator must be applauded for its attention to detail. The website and betting platform are announced as “Proudly Australian” and it is indeed a creation to be proud of.
PlayUp has opted for a wholly cloud-based infrastructure, which is quite unusual for this type of operation, but the result is a fast-loading website that is highly responsive even when using a low bandwidth Internet connection. Top PlayUp ratings for usability and ease of navigation, as well as for the clean, uncluttered layout of every page.
The operator has equally good options for mobile users as well. You have the choice of a mobile-optimised version of the PlayUp website, which is adapted so that you can view it easily even on smaller screens, or native apps for either Android or iOS devices.
The device requirements for both operating systems are low, so even those of you with slightly older devices should experience no functionality issues. There were no negative comments posted about either of these apps, so once again high PlayUp ratings are warranted here.
But is PlayUp secure? Again, PlayUp ratings are high for the levels of security in place. Every web page features https:// with SSL certification provided by Cloudflare Inc and 2FA authentication in place for all financial transactions and transmission of sensitive data.
In common with the majority of operators who provide online gambling in Australia, PlayUp only offers a few standard account funding options, with a minimum deposit of just $10:
Withdrawals are only available to either a credit card or bank account and there is no minimum withdrawal amount listed on the PlayUp website. Any withdrawal requests made before 11.00 AEST are processed on the same working day and the majority are completed in 1-2 working days. We always like to see clients looked after well when they want to access their winnings and we gave top PlayUp ratings for clarity and timeliness.
Something to take note of, which we also observed during our Picklebet reviews, is that withdrawals are only permitted to pre-verified accounts, so you must ensure that you have completed this process, as described in the PlayUp T&Cs, or you may have a longer wait than usual.
The minimum bet amount for the online platform is $1 and $50 for in-play phone betting, the latter being available using a dedicated 24/7 betting line. Despite searching extensively through the terms and conditions during our PlayUp reviews, we were unable to find any reference to maximum betting limits, which is obviously a big plus-point for some of you out there.
As well as a helpful FAQ page and an easy to read terms and conditions document, PlayUp Australia also has an excellent customer support team in place who will be happy to help you with any questions you might have. They are available to punters seven days a week between 12.00 and 03.00 AEST. You have three options if you need to make contact: live chat, a support hotline phone number, or email.
The fastest option is definitely live chat, which you can access by using the green chat icon found at the bottom-right of every web page. As soon as you click on the icon, you will get an immediate response from a friendly live operator.
In order to provide the best service possible, PlayUp does ask that you ensure any information or documentation relating to your enquiry is readily available before you call or instigate a live chat instance, in order to be able to assist you as quickly as possible.
Since the launch of PlayUp Australia in 2015, the operator has performed impeccably under the strict regulatory guidelines and licensing requirements of the Northern Territory Government. Under the terms of this licensing, PlayUp is only permitted to service clients from Australia and New Zealand by providing them with online and phone betting opportunities.
Speaking of which, our PlayUp reviews explored a little of the operator’s background and we can confirm that it is a 100% Australian site that is privately-owned with a squeaky clean financial history, so we are happy to assure you that is entirely legitimate. To its credit, PlayUp has recently secured a $25 million deal to expand its operation into the US, which is a tough nut to crack and shows evidence of its financial standing.
We were also very happy to see that PlayUp shows clear evidence of social responsibility towards its clients and their attitude towards gambling. There is a separate section on the PlayUp website dedicated to ‘Responsible Gambling’ with plenty of supporting documentation. You will find this section right at the bottom of every web page, next to the links for the PlayUp T&Cs.
Australian laws now prohibit sports betting operators from offering sign up bonuses and various sportsbooks have found different ways of encouraging new custom and retaining exiting clients. Some use a VIP Club program offering extra benefits to active punters, whilst others have a loyalty point scheme in place. You may also come across sites which have an entirely different business attitude; there is no standard industry approach for this it seems.
Although our PlayUp reviews suggest that this operator used a tiered loyalty program in the past, it is no longer referred to on the PlayUp Australia website. Although there is now no fixed program in place, what we do know, is that PlayUp rewards loyalty with its ‘Play of the Day’ enhanced odds feature, along with other offers that are directed to punters individually, usually by email.
Our PlayUp reviews showed that this operator offers more than 20 different sports for keen punters to select from.
However, what we really liked about PlayUp was the depth of available leagues to wager on. Taking ice hockey as an example, rather than being content with simply providing odds for NHL fixtures, PlayUp features no less than twelve of the European and Russian leagues as well.
Unlike some sportsbooks, PlayUp has made the decision not to feature racing as a separate section on its website, but that certainly does not detract in any way from the level of coverage this operator gives to it. You will find odds for horse racing, harness racing and greyhound racing from tracks across the world.
The basic sports categories always on offer from PlayUp Australia are Australian Rules, Baseball, Basketball, Boxing, Cricket, Cycling, Darts, Golf, Greyhound Racing, Handball, and Horse Racing to name just a few.
There are often seasonal additions to the list, as well as coverage of special events like the Olympic Games or the biggest Australian horse races, for example. While the list may not look as big as some other operators have, within many of those categories you will find leagues that are uniquely available from PlayUp, which is fantastic for punters who follow the lesser leagues.
In addition to current events, PlayUp also offers futures for Australian rules, basketball, cricket, ice hockey, rugby league, rugby union and soccer. Lastly, if you like a bit of novelty punting, you will also find odds available for politics and entertainment.
Listed odds are always shown in decimal format, which is the norm for Australian sites and at present there is no easy way provided to change the format to fractional or American, but this does not detract from the platform in any way.
The odds available from PlayUp for major league sports are fairly average when compared to competitor sites. However, there are often enhanced odds made available, which are definitely worth looking out for.
PlayUp also offers really great coverage of some of the lesser leagues for mainstream sports and the odds available seem very competitive against the very few operators that provide them at all.
We also like the way that PlayUp clearly displays Win and Place odds side by side for all horse, harness and greyhound races, making it abundantly clear exactly what you stand to win in either scenario.
Overall, PlayUp seems to be more relaxed in terms of betting limits than most of its peers. We easily found out that the minimum bet you can place is $1 online, or $50 for phone betting. However, despite carefully scrutinising all of the PlayUp T&Cs, we could not find any information about an upper limit, which is good news for any one with a decent bank roll.
Live betting is available for many of the sporting events, but under the terms of PlayUp’s Northern Territories Government licensing, all in-play bets must be placed by telephone only and there is a minimum bet amount of $50 applied.
PlayUp has a dedicated betting line available for this purpose, which is very capably manned 24/7 and provides such an excellent service that it will not spoil your wagering experience.
Unfortunately, PlayUp Australia does not currently offer any live streaming and although we are led to believe that this service is ‘under review’, at the time of writing we were unable to establish any timescale for when it might become available.
The sheer enthusiasm of this 100% Australian operation clearly shines out in every way. The PlayUp website and apps are a pleasure to use and will provide you with a thoroughly enjoyable betting experience. Our only minor criticism is the present lack of live streaming, but it does look as though PlayUp has this on the radar for the near future as well.
Overall, we have no qualms in recommending PlayUp Australia to punters and we are certain you will thoroughly enjoy the experience. There is little doubt in our minds that PlayUp will expand its coverage to other parts of the world over the next few years and it is well worth looking out for.
There is a wealth of wagering opportunities available at PlayUp and we have them covered in our 2021 review, which you can find here GamblingGuy.com AU and if you are still looking around for a sportsbook, you can check out many other reviews there too.
PlayUp Australia offers a huge number of in-play betting opportunities, but you are not permitted to access them from the online betting platform. You can find out how PlayUp handles this by taking a look at our in-depth review at GamblingGuy.com AU, as well as anything else you might want to know about this operator.
We know that PlayUp likes to make everything crystal clear for its punters. You can learn exactly how this operator works by checking out our latest PlayUp reviews on GamblingGuy.com AU which is sure to answer this and any other questions you might have.
PlayUp Australia does not offer this service right now, but it certainly makes up for that in other ways. Make sure you check out our in-depth PlayUp Australia review at GamblingGuy.com AU to find out exactly what you might be missing out on. If you’re looking for an operator that might provide this, why not give our Smarkets ratings a look over.
Our PlayUp ratings show clearly that this operator takes great pride in its Australian roots as well as its role in providing a great sportsbook for punters. Throughout this PlayUp review, we have found using the website and apps an easy and pleasurable journey. PlayUp ratings from clients seem to concur with our thoughts and it seems the only slight downside is the current lack of live streaming availability.
Although PlayUp can only accept punters from Australia and New Zealand at the present time, it is currently exploring various avenues to offer its services to other parts of the world. We firmly believe that once live streaming is enabled for clients, PlayUp will become a force to be reckoned with.
