If you want to dive headfirst into top sports and racing markets with a tried-and-tested operator, TAB Australia might just be your best bet. This widely respected bookie offers some amazing odds, easy-to-use mobile betting tools and much more.
You can also expect lightning-fast ETF withdrawals, a decent range of customer support options and some exclusive odds and rewards in the longer-term. That said, TAB’s absent livechat support and limited deposit options might not suit everyone’s tastes. Keep reading our TAB reviews for the full lowdown.
TAB: Pros & Cons
- Superb sportsbook selection
- Top-notch industry reputation all across Australia
- Extensive coverage of horse and greys racing markets
- User-friendly website and quality betting apps
- Deposit methods are a bit on the limited side
TAB Australia scores big on the usability front, with a crisp, clear website that’s fast to load and pretty much idiot-proof to use. “Next to go” racing events and popular sports fixtures are placed front and centre for bettors who want to jump right in, while quick links to NRL, AFL, A-League and more make it easy for Aussies to find exactly what they need in no more than a couple of clicks.
Players can place bets just as easily as we saw of BlueBet in our BlueBet reviews – and TAB also lets bettors add multiple bets to their Blackbook with a single click, too. The green, grey and white colour scheme is easy on the eyes, and players can access all their account information logically and simply via the drop-down menu in the top left-hand corner – though our TAB reviews did find this particular menu to be a little bit cluttered. That said, TAB’s popular iOS and Android apps are truly superb, and possibly even more functional than the site itself.
Our TAB reviews were largely impressed with TAB’s easy to understand deposit and withdrawal terms. Deposit options span from Credit Card, PayPal and BPAY to all kinds of in-person and online TAB Retail Venue deposits. That said, only MasterCard and Visa are accepted online on the credit card front and there have been reports of bettors with cards issued by specific banks encountering some technical issues. Citibank, IMB and Suncorp seem to rank among the main offenders.
The minimum deposit amount is $1 and maximum limits vary by card type from $250 to $50,000 but can be capped by the player upon registration if desired. The minimum withdrawal amount is currently $10 but this could be subject to change at any time – so always double-check. It’s worth noting that your withdrawals will be processed super-fast if you choose Electronic Funds Transfers (ETFs) with TAB, as these are processed five times a day, seven days a week. On the issue of “is TAB secure for payments?”, we think that TAB’s industry reputation says it all – but more on this later.
TAB Australia offers the full gamut of customer service options to Aussies (almost). This includes an online contact form, a dedicated customer service helpline and Australia-specific fax numbers and mailing addresses. There’s no livechat available, but TAB promises a same-day response to all contact forms submitted between 9am and 1pm AEST – and bettors facing urgent issues are encouraged to call the hotline at 131 802.
As far as our TAB ratings are concerned, the operator ranks pretty highly in this category, even despite the lack of livechat. This is mainly due to the friendliness of TAB’s support agents, who are consistently praised in customer reviews. TAB also actively encourages players to contact them on Twitter, showing that the company values transparency and isn’t afraid to help bettors resolve issues in the public sphere. That said, if having a livechat feature is absolutely essential to you, consider checking out TopSport Australia.
If you’ve checked out any other TAB ratings before this one, you’ll be aware that TAB’s parent company, Tabcorp, operates according to the Responsible Gambling Code of Conduct – as well as the South Australian Responsible Gambling Code of Practice. This is excellent news for those of you who might have been worrying “is TAB reliable?”.
Wagering licenses vary from state to state, but the TAB Australia help centre provides ample information on regional rules and restrictions in NSW, VIC and ACT – as well as QLD, SA, ND and TAS – ensuring you’ll always know exactly where you stand in your region. Data encryption is also top-notch across both the TAB website and its various mobile apps. What’s more, the operator serves up a truly exceptional range of responsible gambling tools. Players can self-set their own deposit and spending limits, temporarily suspend their accounts, set a Maximum Bet Cost and much more.
Existing and longstanding TAB bettors get access to daily rewards covering sports, racing and plenty more. There’s no traditional VIP-style loyalty program like we’ve seen used by other gambling sites in Australia, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t plenty of fun to be had taking advantage of some amazing odds and deals.
Special sports offers generally impose a max bet limit (usually of around $50 per customer), while racing deals aren’t always available on all-up multi. That said, long-term bettors are regularly encouraged to grab hold of exclusive odds and multi or same game combinations, on NRL and AFL fixtures. As far as our TAB reviews are concerned, there’s a good range of rewards up for grabs for bettors of all calibres.
Tab.com.au Sports Betting
If you’ve read any other TAB ratings before ours, you’ll no doubt have heard that TAB is best-known for horse and greys betting. But there’s actually much more to it than that – and sports fans definitely won’t be left feeling short-changed.
Homegrown markets like NRL, AFL and A-League are all present and correct and there’s a decent selection of American football and NBA fixtures advertised, too. On top of this, TAB Australia bettors can enjoy putting money down on Tennis, Baseball, Cricket, Darts, Golf and seemingly no-end of niche sports, just like we saw in our Ladbrokes reviews.
All good TAB reviews should talk turkey about odds, right? So, let’s dive right in. As one of Australia’s best-known bookies, TAB is well-known for offering very competitive odds – especially on horse racing and local Aussie sports – but is that where TAB’s competitive edge ends?
Well, actually – no. Our TAB ratings can reveal that TAB’s sports odds on anything from American Football through NBA to Cricket are actually pretty competitive all-round. At the time of writing, even European soccer fixtures on World Cup Qualifiers are offering pretty cushty odds – with Russia v Slovenia offering 1.68 on Russia to win, 6.00 on Slovenia and 3.40 on a draw. Not bad at all.
Live betting & streaming
TAB Australia bettors get to enjoy an independent live betting interface backed by event schedules, stats and real-time scores. Everything’s super easy to use on either smartphone or desktop, but in-play betting tends to be limited to specific sports and fixtures.
Bettors can also watch all three Sky Racing channels live – a major calling card for racing fans. That said, many NBA games can usually be live-streamed, too. Even if you’re here for AFL, soccer or other sports, our TAB reviews highly doubt you’ll be disappointed by the high-tech betting tools and intuitive apps on offer. Just remember that, under the usual Aussie rules, you’ll need to bet by phone using 1 300 408 773 on all in-play live events.
Now, this is one area it’s a little difficult for our TAB ratings to comment on in detail, as TAB’s T&Cs aren’t particularly detailed as far as betting limits are concerned. That said, special odds and rewards covering sports events often impose a $50 maximum limit on each individual bettor – so watch out for this if using these.
Generally speaking, TAB reviews and customer ratings across the web aren’t overly critical of TAB for limiting players too quickly or imposing particularly unreasonable restrictions at short notice – and this is always a good sign.
In all, TAB Australia is a pretty great place for sports fans on account of the breadth and diversity of international sports markets represented online and the quality of odds currently on offer.
With those consistently good odds, easy-to-use betting tools and hundreds of different sports markets at your disposal, you really can’t go far wrong with this operator as far as our TAB ratings are concerned.
Offering superb odds on top sports and racing markets and fool-proof web and app software to boot, our TAB ratings definitely rank TAB among Oz’s top bookmakers right now. TAB’s betting tools are some of the easiest-to-use we’ve seen, and the operator’s stellar reputation and trusted licenses pretty much eliminate any “is TAB secure?” concerns. You can also expect fast withdrawals and great customer service.
TAB offers unhindered access to an exceptional selection of markets and signing up right now really is a no-brainer – especially for sports and racing fans who want to reap regular rewards in the long term. If you can forgive the operator’s limitations in terms of payment and customer support options, you’re pretty much guaranteed to have a whale of a time.
