DFS is live and legal across Ontario as well as the rest of Canada, allowing you to join reputable online daily fantasy sports providers and build your dream lineups.Â
The changes to legislation will soon see private sportsbooks enter the Ontario market, presenting you with the chance to wager across both DFS and real sports markets, too. Does this mean that you will be able to wager on sports using your DFS account?
The first thing to note is that Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) is completely legal across the whole of Canada. You can simply sign yourself up to a popular DFS operator and begin building fantasy lineups across your favorite sports.
DFS contests, leagues, and competitions can last anywhere between one day and one season, giving you the freedom to manipulate lineups, trial a variety of sports, and enjoy daily fantasy sports on your terms. If you’re a DFS bettor, you will create your lineups based on real-world player and team statistics, in the hopes of securing the most points throughout the contest and selecting a winning lineup. Each competition will host a set entry fee which will contribute towards the prize pot. Depending on the size of the pot, prizes will be distributed based on your final position. In other words, if you who win the tournament, you will be granted the largest portion of winnings, while those who finish in lower positions will receive substantially less, or nothing at all.
Currently, there are two main daily fantasy sports providers available across Ontario – DraftKings and Fanduel.Â
DraftKings was established back in 2013 and has proven itself as a well-respected, fair, and secure DFS operator globally. The majority of contests are accessible to all, with some hosting fairly lucrative prize pots. You can enter contests across all major US and international sports, including NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and the CFL, too. The other legal and licensed option for DFS enthusiasts across Ontario is FanDuel. The platform is equipped with the latest security features, a rewarding loyalty program, and a solid array of DFS markets that mimic those of its biggest competitor, detailed above.
Both of these online DFS operators look set to present the people of Ontario with a real-world sportsbook product, too. So, what does this mean for those who already have a daily fantasy sports account?
With both big-name DFS operators set to open their virtual doors on April 4th, you will no doubt be wondering whether a separate account is needed to place their real sports wagers. In short, the answer is yes.
Unfortunately, due to additional restrictions and regulations, you will be required to open a separate real sports betting account and present your chosen platform with additional details that confirm your identity. Once your documentation has been confirmed, you will then be able to link your daily fantasy sports and online sports betting accounts via email.
The daily fantasy sports market is already especially popular throughout Ontario. Bearing this in mind, we could see FanDuel and DraftKings rocket to the top of the real sports betting leaderboards, too. After all, if you are a sports bettor, you will already be used to the layout, design, and experience of placing wagers across these two credible industry giants, making the transition to real sports that much easier.
Of course, it is important to note that the product offered by FanDuel, DraftKings, and all other online sportsbooks set to enter the Ontario online betting market, will all host different sports betting markets.
Thankfully, here at GamblingGuy.com, we have taken the time to review the daily fantasy sports offerings of FanDuel and DraftKings, presenting our findings in an easy-to-read review. Not only this, but we’ve also tasked our experts to compare all sports betting operators that look set to open their doors to Ontario’s betting scene come April 4th.
You’ve still got plenty of time to make use of the GamblingGuy platform and find the perfect wagering spot for you. If you do opt to stay with FanDuel or DraftKings, please remember, when the time comes, to link your DFS and sports betting accounts!
