Bellator 283: Douglas Lima vs Jason Jackson prediction & betting odds

The former Bellator Welterweight champion, Douglas “The Phenom” Lima will face Jason “The Ass-kicking Machine” Jackson on the main event of Bellator 283. Unlike Jackson, who had five consecutive wins prior to the bout, Lima is the underdog with his recent losing streak, making the Brazilian less-favorite contender on the booking board.

The two big powerhouses in the Bellator would square off on the highly-anticipated bout at Emerald Queen Casino and Hotel in Tacoma, Washington. Lima is an elite fighter in Bellator history. Winning and losing the Welterweight title back and forth is nothing new to him.

Back in his prime, Lima was considered among the elite in the MMA world. He was in the mix with UFC champion Kamaru Usman following consecutive wins over Andrey Koreshkov, Michael Page and Rory MacDonald.

“It’s the game we play. Every fight is like this. Every fight is tough,” Lima said in an interview with The Underground. “I’ve been fighting the best in the world in my division, but it is what it is. When I was younger, you’d probably hear me crying, ‘Yo, should I keep doing this? This is not for me,’ but I mean, I’ve been in this long enough.

“I’ve been in this game for, like, 20 years, man. Nothing really changes. Some close fights, setbacks — stuff like that happens. Me, I’m just moving forward.”

Lima to bounce back

A dark cloud is hanging over Lima’s head at the moment. His loss to Mousasi started his first career losing streak after 15 years as a pro. That loss affected his mentality as he lost his welterweight title to Yaroslav Amosov in the next fight. The minor streak was extended after he dropped a split decision to Michael Page. Considering this record, Lima has +160 for him to beat Jackson.

With the latest trend, Lima is expected to capitalize on Jackson’s error. Just like what he did to Michael Page in the second round of Bellator 221 co-main event. Otherwise, he will end up fighting against the in-form opponent for five rounds.

On the opposite corner, Jackson has taken the promotions by storm. Currently ranked #4, Jackson has out-hustled his competition to place himself in this position. Winning five consecutive fights with some notable wins against the likes of Benson Henderson, Neiman Gracie and Paul Daley. A win over the former three-time champ could lead to a world title shot in his next fight. This is Jackson’s first main event in Bellator and his crucial chance to make a big statement in the promotion.

Jackson said that this is a “now or never” opportunity to get him closer to the title fight in the Welterweight division. “Absolutely, title eliminator,” Jackson told MMA Junkie. “This is a title eliminator right here, for sure, I was told by source. Because I was already next in line for the shot.”

At the co-main event, the #1 ranked Bellator Lightweight, Sidney Outlaw will face the Bellator debutant, as well as former Rizin Lightweight Grand Prix winner Tofiq Musayev. Outlaw was initially scheduled for a title fight against the Bellator MMA Lightweight World Champion Patricky Pitbull. But the champ was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury. The ranking doesn’t make “Da Gun” a favorite among the betters as he is the underdog with +135 on his name.

Despite coming as a first-timer, Tofiq Musayev is expected to make an immediate and drastic impact. With impressive victories in 14 of his last 15 fights, including a notable victory over Bellator MMA Lightweight World Champion Patricky Pitbull, Musayev is the favorite to win the bout with -160, plus a victory over Outlaw as a higher ranker will lead him to the Bellator MMA World Championship fight on the line.
