Online sports betting in Louisiana has only been live for a handful of days and already there are several sportsbooks ready to take your college sports bets. So keep reading to see which college sports you can legally bet on and learn the best ways of doing so!
You are legally allowed to bet on college sports at a licensed sportsbook in Louisiana. This can either be done online or at one of the physical sportsbooks in the Pelican State. Just so you know, you’ll have to be 21 years or over to legally bet on sport in Louisiana.
The range of college sports you can legally bet on includes everything from football and basketball to hockey and baseball. There aren’t any restrictions about where the college sport event is taking place or where the college sports team is based. This is good news as punters in some other US states can’t bet on a college sports team if they are based in their state.
Thankfully, you now have the freedom to bet on the LSU Tigers as they prove themselves to be one of key players on the college football scene. Plus there’s the option to bet on all of the other college sports teams in Louisiana ranging from the mighty Tulane Green Wave to the equally impressive LA Tech Bulldogs.
With everything still very new, you might be wondering ‘”What can I bet on in Louisiana?”. While you can legally bet on college sports in Louisiana, it’s important to remember that there are restrictions for some similar sporting events. For example, you won’t be able to bet on any high school sports, and the same is true for betting on any other youth sports events. Obviously the ethical issues of betting on minors means that there’s little chance of betting on any youth sports in Louisiana in the future.
However, we should note that esports betting has thrown up a few challenges for Louisiana’s gambling regulators. After all, many participants in esports tournaments are teenagers which throws up more than a few ethical issues. As a result, any sportsbook who wishes to feature bets on an esports tournament must seek permission from the Louisiana Gaming Control Board before doing so.
You should only ever bet on sport at a sportsbook who is licensed and regulated by the Louisiana Gaming Control Board. There are currently six sportsbooks with such regulation and they’ll all give you a legal, safe and easy way to bet on college sports.
You can usually check a sportsbook’s regulation as they’ll include the relevant information in their website footer. There’s also the option to check on the Louisiana Gaming Control Board website where you’ll find a full list of all of the legal sportsbooks in the Pelican State.
