Best College Football Odds: LSU Tigers, NCU Trojans are bookers’ favorite

LSU Tigers and NCU Trojans are the leading favorites on the betting board for winning the national title, owing to some factors. For LSU, the presence of Boston native coach Brian Kelly put the club in such a position. LSU is 11-12 since winning the 2019 national championship with Joe Burrow and Ja’Marr Chase. They went 6-7 last season which put them at 200-1 at the Westgate Superbook.

The Tigers’ liability has risen to 60-1 after a bettor put $1,500 in them at 100-1, making it their largest opportunity. Westgate vice president of risk, Ed Salmons is surprised at the recent odds for the club and impressed with the public’s attention upon the club this season.

“We’ve taken a ton of LSU money to win the national championship, which is kind of shocking to me,” Westgate vice president of risk E Salmons said. “That LSU team is not even close to the team Burrow and Chase was on. But they’re a big-time public team that everyone wants to bet. With Brian Kelly coming on board, they have new believers.”

Overtaking USC in their own soil

A fairly similar situation occurred in Southern California. The Tigers’ opportunity rose from 40-1 to 25-1. The ticket leader at the Superbook has overtaken USC Trojans following the arrival of Lincoln Riley as a coach.

“I’m comfortable where we are with USC right now,” Salmons said. “Just getting into the playoffs would be a huge accomplishment for USC, let alone thinking they’re good enough to beat Alabama, Ohio State or Georgia. I have Utah as the best team in the Pac-12.

“You never know how it’s going to go with all the new parts together. It could take a while. But Riley seems like a pretty smart coach,” Salmons said. “Maybe he’ll be able to recruit better players out of USC. But he hasn’t gotten to the elite level with Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia.”

The USC sits at 12th on Westgate’s power ratings. Trailing 20 points behind Crimson Tide. They are also 17 points behind the Buckeyes and 15 behind the Bulldogs as the defending champ.

Meanwhile, for FOX Bet, Alabama led the odds to win the national title ahead of Ohio State and Georgia. Alabama has +150 on their name while the latter shared +325 to clinch the title. “This could be the best Alabama team we’ve seen yet. They just look absolutely loaded,” Salmons said. “Their defense, on paper, is the best defense they’ll ever have in (coach Nick) Saban’s career.”

Back in June, one of the bettors in Caesars Sportsbook put $10,000 on Alabama to be crowned champions at 2-1, causing the number to dip to +180.

“This looks like a generational team for Alabama and bettors are in love with Ohio State,” Caesars’ lead college football trader Joseph Feazel said. “These two have definitely separated themselves from the pack in terms of action. Alabama has to be up there for biggest preseason favorites recently. I can’t think of many teams that had lower odds than them in July.”
