Dak Prescottâs steady performance led the Dallas Cowboys to a 41-35 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night. The victory marks the Cowboysâ fourth consecutive win versus the Seahawks.
Even so, the Louisiana-born quarterback remains focused. He said that he was just fulfilling his expected role with a late-game touchdown drive and three additional scoring passes.
âMy expectations, honestly,â Prescott said. âI put a lot in this game. I prepare my ass off. Got amazing coaches and players around me right now doing the exact same. So I just really think thatâs the expectations that I have for myself, the standard that weâve created as an offense and how weâre comfortable playing this game.â
In his last seven games, Prescott, at ease and in top form, delivered 21 touchdown passes, including three against Seattle, with only two interceptions. The Cowboys are on a 6-1 record after bouncing back from an October 8 loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
Prescott led an offense on Thursday that did not punt, scoring on eight out of 10 possessions. He later sealed the teamâs victory with a kneel-down.
Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy drew parallels between Prescottâs play and Aaron Rodgersâ MVP seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Despite Prescottâs playoff history, he has propelled the 9-3 Cowboys toward a potential third consecutive playoff season, reminiscent of their 1990s Super Bowl-winning era.
âDakâs playing great ball. Itâs fun when youâre in this rhythm,â McCarthy said. âHe has such great command. And itâs just a connection with his teammates. Weâre getting in and out of things seamlessly.â
According to McCarthy, the team is âplaying with really good pace.â He also mentioned that the current attack strategy and style are up to par, and Dak is the perfect guy to do that as âa championship-caliber quarterback.â
Owner Jerry Jones also complimented Dakâs performance, whom he said is getting better even when he has already âgot his experience and has had the reps that heâs had in his career.â
âBut heâs also had his share of downturns. Dakâs playing the best,â Jones said. âHeâs getting better. In my mind, heâs the best heâs ever been.â
After completing 29 of 41 passes for 299 yards and three touchdowns, including the 12-yard winner to Jake Ferguson with 4:37 to play, Prescottâs chances of winning the NFL Most Valuable Player award shifted from 8-1 to 5-1. ESPN BET reports this, tying him with Lamar Jackson for the third-shortest odds.
Prescott himself is unfazed by MVP discussions or Super Bowl aspirations. Instead, he chose to have a weekend off to observe the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles facing the 49ers on Sunday. His focus is on recuperating after playing three games in 12 days.
Should the Niners triumph over the Eagles, the Cowboys will be one game behind in the division. Notably, the Eagles secured a 28-23 victory against the Cowboys in their initial encounter on November 5.
âExcited for it. Really am,â Prescott said. âThe way that we’re playing, understanding how that game went the last time. We get to get that bunch here at home.â
He expressed his intention to review the previous encounter with the opposing team right after the Sunday game and analyze their performances over the past month.
