Louisiana Sports Betting Launch A Huge Success

Geolocation data shows that Louisiana residents were raring to go as soon as sports betting launched in their state. In fact, the state arguably had better numbers on their opening weekend than New York!

GeoComply data has given us a closer look at the Arizona, New York, and Louisiana online sports betting launches. The technology has given us the ability to see how many bettors flocked to the newly-launched LA sports betting sites.

According to GeoComply, the peak of the transaction volumes at Louisiana online betting sites for sports, were recorded on Sunday between 5pm and 6 pm. This time coincides with the start of the NFC Championship game between the LA Rams and San Francisco 49ers, which was to be expected from the sports betting operators.

Here are some of Louisiana’s impressive statistics from GeoComply on their opening weekend:

• 3.4 million geolocation transactions that took place since the launch on Friday, January 28, 2022 at 8am until the end of Sunday’s games.
• During the first 36 hours, the total number of players represented 3.6% of Louisiana’s adult population (over 18 years of age). In comparison, New York’s players during the opening weekend represented 3.3% of the adult population.
• 68% of GeoComply’s volumes occurred within the southeastern section of the state, including Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Better numbers than New York?

Both New York and Louisiana were eager to try out some of the best online gambling sites in the USA. Make no mistake, residents of both states couldn’t wait to get their hands on the latest and greatest of sports betting platforms.

However, it seems that the newly-launched Louisiana sportsbooks out-performed New York sports betting sites immediately after launching. Take a look at the numbers below where both states are compared by their populations:

• Louisiana’s adult population (18 years and older) is 3.25 million, or roughly 72% of the total population in the state. New York’s adult population is 14.29 million, or 75% of the state’s total population.

The numbers above indicate that New York had the edge over Louisiana in terms of potential sports bettors. However, for the LA launch, this has not been the case. Even with the population advantage and a slightly higher percentage of adult males (the target market for sports betting) Louisiana put up better numbers than New York.

Of course this doesn’t mean that New York will be trailing for long. Bettors are sure to be flocking to the mobile sportsbooks in no time. With the clear population advantage, New York will surpass Louisiana’s numbers over time.
