Some experts argued that the future will be bright for the Baltimore Ravens this season. Sam Monson from Pro Football Focus predicts that Baltimore Ravens will dominate the AFC North title, while Connor Orr from Sports Illustrated said that Ravens would be stronger with their current rosters.
After dealing with many injuries last season, the Ravens are coming back stronger prior to the new season with some key players back alongside some new fresh faces. They will play the opening game of the season against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.
Monsoon is confident that the Ravens have the ingredients to dominate the conference. He also mentioned that it was unfortunate for the Ravens to pick some bad moments leading to their failure of playing consistently at the high level last season.
“The playoff race in the AFC last year was a wild ride, and Baltimore was the No. 1 seed in the AFC until injuries finally started to take their toll and drag the team down,” Monsoon said.
“The Ravens’ backfield was decimated before the season even began, and the secondary took a real beating late in the year — not to mention losing Lamar Jackson for some time.”
Orr also supports the idea of Ravens will rise even higher despite the injuries they had last season.
“Few NFL clubs have found a way to adequately defend the Ravens at full health,” Orr said. “Now they appear better and stronger than ever. Outside of Joe Burrow’s transcendent excellence, we know very little for sure about the rest of the AFC North.
“Just about everybody is beginning to realize the Ravens’ turbulent 2021 season wasn’t due to the players or coaching, but rather the massive injuries. With all of them slated to be back, and a few fresh faces to accompany them, big things are expected for the Ravens,” he continued.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson is one of the experienced players that was expected to return with the Ravens when the season starts. He missed the final four weeks of last season due to an ankle injury.
According to Ravens’ Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman, the Florida-born player is in good condition.
“I think this is the best I’ve ever seen him throw it,” Roman said. “He’s really worked hard in the offseason and it’s showing. We just have to build on that. It’s really exciting.”
Furthermore, Orr explained that Jackson would play a significant role for the Ravens in the upcoming season, considering the attributes he has.
“Lamar Jackson will set a career high in passing yards and reenter the MVP conversation,” Orr said.
“With an offense doubling down on the best of what Jackson does, the quarterback will be more comfortable than he’s been in years. While he won’t top 36 passing touchdowns, he will score more than 40 combined rushing and passing touchdowns.”
Apart from Jackson’s presence on the team, Orr reminded people about the Ravens’ stock of young players. He said that this year’s rookie would be a not-so-secret weapon for the team’s successful run this season.
“This year’s rookie class has a ton of promise,” Orr said. “Kyle Hamilton, Sauce Gardner, Derek Stingley Jr., Trent McDuffie, Kaiir Elam, Andrew Booth Jr., Kyler Gordon. Someone will get picked on and make other teams pay for the mistake.”
