
On Sunday, October 2nd, the New York Jets will play an away game against the Pittsburgh Steelers at Acrisure Stadium in Pennsylvania. Both teams currently have a 1-2 record and they recently suffered losses in their most recent games.
The Jets were defeated 27-12 by the Cincinnati Bengals on September 25, while the Steelers lost 29-17 to the Cleveland Browns on September 22.
The Steelers have won 18 of the 24 games in the rivalry, with a total of 530 points scored, while the Jets have only defeated the Steelers in 6 games, with a total of 302 points scored.
The game on Sunday will be the first between the two teams in more than two years, with the Jets defeating the Steelers 16-10 at home on December 22, 2019.
After losing 17-14 to the New England Patriots in Week 2, the Steelers were defeated again in Week 3 by the Browns. Pittsburgh only scored 17 points and gained 308 yards in their latest game, and they are currently fourth in the AFC North standings.
In the previous game, quarterback Mitchell Trubisky had 20 passes completed, 32 attempts and 207 yards. Najee Harris led the Steelers in rushing with 15 attempts, 56 yards, one rushing touchdown and 10 longest rushing attempts.
According to Teresa Varley on the Steelers’ official website, the team is anticipated to be without a number of players for the game on Sunday, including Ahkello Witherspoon who is out with a hamstring injury. Varley also mentioned that T.J. Watt was placed on the injured reserve after suffering a pectoral injury.
The Jets are currently fourth in the AFC East standings, with a winning-loss percentage of .333. New York only scored 12 points and gained 328 yards in their most recent game against the Bengals.
In the team’s latest appearance, QB Joe Flacco led the passing game with 28 completed passes, 52 attempted passes and 285 yards gained by passing. RB Breece Hall contributed to the Jets’ rushing attack with 8 attempts and 39 yards gained.
The Jets are also missing some players due to injury ahead of Sunday’s game. The LB Quincy Williams is out due to an ankle injury. Meanwhile, according to Ethan Greenberg on the team’s official website, Jets OT George Fant was placed on injured reserve on Thursday due to a knee injury.
Quarterback Zach Wilson, who previously missed three games due to an injury sustained in the preseason, is eligible to play on Sunday.
“I’m full go. I’m going to play ball how I can,” he said. “If somebody comes up, I’ll make somebody miss, get out on the edge, extend plays when I need to, hang in the pocket. I’m playing exactly how I should be,” Wilson added.
