San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has attracted the biggest Super Bowl MVP bet reported to date.
The Arizona-born has a $200,000 wager at +240 odds on Caesars Sportsbook. This wager could yield a $480,000 profit if Purdy clinches the award in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs next weekend.
Purdy was originally slotted with earlier-season MVP expectations, but a disappointing showing against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 16 shattered them. Now, he may have to accept the trade-off of aiming for the Super Bowl MVP instead.
Purdy has become the 49ers starting quarterback since Week 13 this season. He has shown an impressive season performance in his tenure, where he amassed 4,280 passing yards and 31 touchdowns.
The 24-year-old is renowned for his athleticism and clutch plays. One of his most notable moments is executing a 21-yard scramble in the red zone during the NFC Championship Game against the Detroit Lions.
Currently, Purdy trailed closely behind Chiefs’ star quarterback Patrick Mahomes in BetMGM’s favored Super Bowl MVP at +220. Mahomes, who earned the MVP title in the Chiefs’ victory against the Philadelphia Eagles last year, stands at +120.
This season alone, the 28-year-old Texan accumulated 2,442 passing yards on 334 attempts, securing 17 touchdowns against eight interceptions. Despite fluctuations in his season performance, his completion rate stands at an impressive 68.6 percent, which is among the best of his career.
Additionally, Purdy’s teammate and the 49ers’ running back Christian “CMC” McCaffrey is also a significant contender for the Super Bowl MVP with +450 odds. Throughout the season, McCaffrey showcased his rushing prowess by accumulating 1,459 yards, securing the top spot in the league.
He also scored 14 touchdowns, placing him fourth in the NFL. Now, the Stanford graduate holds 14.1 percent of all bets on BetMGM.
The Super Bowl LVIII next Sunday, February 11, will be a much-anticipated rematch unfolding over four years. The 49ers will once again face the Chiefs in the Super Bowl at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, a reunion coming after their prior encounter in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in 2020.
At the end of the 2019/20 season, the 49ers fell to Mahomes and the Chiefs by eleven points. However, many bettors express confidence in a different outcome for the 49ers this time.
As recently reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Caesars has already seen significant bets in the lead-up to the 2024 Super Bowl. A gambler at Caesars Sportsbook in Michigan has staked $1 million on the 49ers with a money line of -120 to win the Super Bowl.
If San Francisco emerges victorious, the bettor stands to profit $833,333.33. Additionally, $100,000 has been placed on tails for the winning coin flip.
Following the $200,000 bet, Purdy’s odds on Caesars dipped to +200. This is a figure unavailable on any legal sports betting apps. The current best odds stand at +210 on BetRivers Sportsbook.
BetMGM Sportsbook informs The Post that with 9.8 percent of the money, Purdy ranks as their third-highest Super Bowl MVP liability. He has been available for betting since the wild-card round.
Meanwhile, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson still holds the top MVP liability at a substantial 30.7 percent. Yet, with the Ravens eliminated, MGM will be retaining that money.
